The project

The formulation of the General Urban Traffic Plan (PGTU) for L’Aquila Municipality in Italy focuses on the execution of measures outlined within the city’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) across short and medium-term scenarios. This plan serves as an integral tool for traffic management tool that coordinates all the operational strategies concerning the overall mobility system and traffic. Key areas included in the PGTU are:

  • Urban and metropolitan public transportation.
  • Pedestrian mobility.
  • Functional classification of road network.
  • Designation of zones: pedestrian areas, limited traffic zones (ZTL), moderate traffic zones (30 km/h zones. street and residential areas), etc.
  • Cycling infrastructure and mobility.
  • Innovative mobility (shared mobility, e-mobility, smart mobility, MaaS).
  • Priority initiatives for enhancing road safety and resolving critical traffic issues, including parking systems.
  • Urban logistics and freight plans.
